All words and text are moved on top of eachother in word 2003

Question/Problem:

When I try to switch printer, or print or select another printer as default, all the words and sentences in my document move to the left, on top of eachother, leaving only unreadable blots where the symbols converge. Printing the document results in the same problem on the printed paper. However, saving the document, logging out then back in, and opening the document fixes the problem. Is there a more workable/permanent fix for this word 2003 problem?
