Backup Exec BkupExec.exe 0x00471fde error

Question/Problem:

On our windows 2003 SBS Server we're having issues with erronous backups and crashes of Symantec Backup Exec. We're using an LTO drive, the error displayed is the following:

BkupExec.exe: "The instruction at "0x00471fde" referenced memory at "0x00000020". The memory could not be "read"."

The answer/solution:

So far this error is completely unknown to Symantec, and support has been less than helpful. A full reinstall of Symantec Backup Exec was required to fix this error.
