Question/Problem:

i have installed exchange server 2003 , on windows server 2003 , through following process i.e

1)enabled and instaaled NNTP. SMTP, ASP.NET. then
2)Installed and run dcdiag and net diag from windows support tool .then
3)then ran the forest step prep. then
4) ran domainprep then
5) ran the setup.

every thing gone sucessfully till here. if any thing left in above mentioned steps do kindly guide me and let me know.

And plz do clear some points to me i.e :-

A) currently my exchange server mode is mixed mode , should i convert it to native mode ? , what is a difference between mixed and native mode , kindly answer me in easy words.

B) like i installed SMTP, NNTP, AND ASP.NET , should i install pop3 services also for exchange , is it necessary to install pop3 services for exchange server?

The answer/solution:

A: I mixed mode is only necessary if you have older servers in the same network (domain). If only the 2 2003 servers, you should use native mode, it gives you access to your exchange 2003's full range of features.

B: pop3 services are not necessary, exchange has a web based interface for people not at work, and pop3 is usually only used by other email clients. People rarely use it. If your people use outlook at work, you'll be fine without it.
