We're getting 2 errors in our logs intermittently, one while mcafee is enabled (Failed to send SMTP (80000005)) and one when it's disabled (Failed to send SMTP (2Af9)).
I would like Arcserve to send an alert whenever a job is completed or fails.
The first error is caused by mcafee not allowing mail to be sent, you'll have to exclude the arcserve alert.exe file from being blocked on the smtp port (port 25). You can do this in mcafee's manager.
The second error is caused by faulty mail settings. Either use exchange if you have an exchange mailserver, the alert manager can use this. Or use SMTP, in which case you have to specify your mailserver.
If you're using an exchange server in your network, configure the local virtual smtp service on your arcserve server (in IIS administrator) to relay to your exchange server. Then in arcserve alert manager set your smtp server to localhost.
Don't forget to set the alert notifications in job options when your test messages work!
Note: if the above doesn't help you, try adding your mailserver to your hosts file, EVEN if you've filled out it's ip instead of hostname.
